About Me

Hello, my name is Maggie Coons-Abbott and this is my website dedicated to my passion for travel and writing about my experiences abroad. The traveling I have done so far in my life has shaped my personality in ways that would not have been possible without it. I value the more rounded view I have of myself, my society, and the world that I developed while abroad. My website is a view of the world in my eyes; looking through the lens of travel.

As a child, I was fortunate enough to travel to far off places. When I was nine years old, I took my first trip to Europe. It was a Baltic cruise beginning in London. This is what I identify as the first trip that really sparked my love for travel. It was at this time as well that I began, and found my passion for creatively writing. In fourth grade I wrote a poem about my dreams to travel the world. The poem was titled “Just Do It!”, and it included my longings to walk the Great Wall of China, gaze upon the frozen world of Antarctica and to explore the vast lands of Africa. After every dream expressed in the poem, the next line was “Just do it!”, as if they could be easily accomplished. Being in fourth grade, they did seem like very simple goals, and I believed that when I got older, I would fulfill my desires. Eleven years and much more experience later, I’ve learned a lot more about the places I imagined seeing, and my goals and list of destinations have evolved to better suit my travel pallet, but my desire to explore has not waned at all. While my goals have changed as I grew up, at twenty one, I would still love to see the Great Wall, the frozen Antarctic realm, and the big cats of the African plain. My interest in travel exceeds just the pleasure of exploring; I am looking to develop and shape my global perspective. One day, I hope to achieve this through the career of travel writing.

I grew up in a small town in Northern California called Willits; where I also completed community college and earned an Associates Degree in the Humanities and Arts. Currently, I am attending the University of California, San Diego. Here I am studying Communications and planning to graduate with a BA this year, 2014.
